I just finished groundswell. It's a 2008 book about how firms can use Web 2.0 technologies to connect with customers, fans, and employees. I recommend it. A few key take-aways:
- Implement a Web 2.0 strategy using the POST process (People, Objectives, Strategy, Technology). The key point here is that strategy drives technology choices.
- Succeeding with Web 2.0 is more like ju jitsu than Tae Kwon Do. It's more about directing and guiding the energy of a community than abruptly changing its course.
- The "social technographics ladder" is a helpful way to analyze the adoption curve of Web 2.0. There are only a small % of people who will be "content creators". The majority wil always be "joiners" or "spectators". A Web 2.0 Strategy must address people where they are and maximize the value to them.
