We bought a new ice cream freezer this summer. YUM! Although it seems to work perfectly, we've not had great luck so far. We've made three flavors...
- Simple Vanilla: Yummy, but a bit bland
- Grasshopper: Well, we didn't have a recipe for this, I just tried to mix it together. It didn't turn out great. It went from green to grey over the last few minutes of stirring and it was essentially tasteless since I forgot to include the vanilla extract. 1 tsp of peppermint and 3 TBSP of sugar won't flavor 2 quarts of ice cream.
- Chocolate: Tonight's concoction was not bad...but had a wierd texture. Of the seven bowls I dished up, only two were eaten. The rest were returned with apologies of "I had a big dinner"... Did I mention the five "offenders" were all under 12 years old! Have you ever met a kid unwilling to eat good ice cream because they had too big a dinner?

I seem to remember being promised some homemade ice cream but never getting it.
ReplyDeleteKeep working to perfect it and I'll come back for some. :)
Ask Shelly for her mint chip recipe; we made it for July 4th and it was a big hit.
